Frequently asked questions

Have a question or not sure where to start? We've listed some of the common frequently asked questions that we receive here to help you. If there's something you'd like to ask us please just get in touch.

1. Where are you based?

We’re based in Kilcock but we offer Driving Lessons across all of the surrounding areas including Kilcock, Maynooth, Celbridge, Enfield, Leixlip and Lucan. If you want to contract MotoRay for Corporate Services, we are available nationwide.

2. What payment methods are available?

3. Do you offer corporate services for businesses such as driving schools?

Yes. MotoRay is available nationwide for corporate services. Please get in touch so we can learn more about how we can help you.

4. I failed my driving test once or more, how can you help me?

Unlike most driving instructors, Ray has worked as a Driving Tester in the Road Safety Authority for over two decades, performing driving tests on a daily basis for thousands of drivers. Using this experience, your faults will be identified and corrected quickly – helping you achieve your goal of passing your driving test.

5. What do I need to bring to my driving lessons?

In the introductory lesson, your driving instructor gives you an Essential Driver Training (EDT) Learner Driver Information Booklet.

You will then receive your EDT logbook at the end of your first ‘EDT’ lesson which is at Lesson Two of the Level One (Educate) package. The EDT logbook is provided free of charge, however, if you misplace it, you may be charged for a replacement EDT logbook. You can find out more information on replacing your EDT logbook on the Road Safety Authority’s website.

Please bring your learners permit to every lesson.

6. Does Moto Ray Driving School offer lessons on automatic cars?

We do provide automatic lessons in private-owned vehicles, but we currently do not have any automatic vehicles in our fleet. If you would like to do your lessons in your own automatic vehicle that is no problem. Our fleet currently only consists of manual transmission vehicles, however we plan on getting an automatic car soon.

7. How often should I be taking driving lessons?

The Road Safety Authority recommend one driving lesson every two weeks and at least three hours practice between each driving lesson.

8. Can I book two driving lessons one after the other?

Yes, we are happy to provide you with your lessons in succession or over a specific time period, whatever suits you best.

9. What test centres do you cover?

We cover Naas, Navan, Mullhuddart & Mullingar.

10. Is it ok to take a driving test in an automatic vehicle?

Yes, but when you pass your practical driving test in an automatic this will be the only type of vehicle that you will be entitled to drive. Whereas if you pass your practical driving test in a vehicle which has manual transmission then you are then entitled to drive both automatic or manual gearbox vehicles unaccompanied.

We always recommend to do your test in a manual vehicle to avoid future limitations.

11. Will you pick me up and drop me off at my home?

Of course. Our main priority is making sure that all lessons and/or services that we provide are suitable and work for you. We are more than happy to agree a pick up and drop off point for the lessons.

12. Do you have a manual or automatic car?

We offer lessons in both manual or automatic vehicles. Simply state your preference when booking with us.
